Why historians

The difference is who is talking.

A good guide knows the route. A historian knows why the route exists: which wall was built against whom, which street was renamed after which revolution, which building is a nineteenth-century idea of the Middle Ages. Our walks are led by people from LocalBini’s vetted network of 3,000 locals across Europe who have studied the city’s past, and who live in it now.

Reviews of LocalBini, the network behind these walks. Read them on Google

“Aude was a fantastic tour guide who brought the rich history and architecture of Annecy to life. What’s more, it was totally entertaining.”

Tom N., Google review · Annecy

“Marion took all the time for us and brought Weimar to life with her stories. She spoke with knowledge, passion and a touch of humour, so we did not just learn a lot, we could feel the atmosphere and soul of the city.”

Duncan G., Google review (translated from Dutch) · Weimar

“Robin is a fantastic guide. A very nice walking tour of Reims, starting at the train station, stopping at a champagne house, finishing with a tour of the fabulous cathedral.”

William L., Google review · Reims

Environmental history

Three lakes, one new way to walk.

In Geneva, Lausanne and Annecy our historians of the environment walk the shore instead of the square: how a lake was poisoned and cleaned, how a river was buried under a city, how the science of ice and water began here. History told through water, not kings.

Questions

Before you ask.

All questions

Who leads the walks?

Historians, archaeologists, art historians and history teachers from LocalBini’s vetted network of locals. Each walk is led by someone who lives in the city and has studied its past, not a script reader.

How does booking work?

You send an inquiry with the city, date, time, duration and whether it is private or a group. We reply within one working day to settle the details with you: questions, timing, theme. Then we confirm your historian, usually within two to three days, with the price and the meeting point. You pay by card through the link in that email, and the walk is booked.

What does it cost?

It depends on the city, the duration and the group size, so the price is in your confirmation. Private walks for up to eight people and group walks up to 25 are priced differently; ask and you have a number once the details are settled.

Cancellation?

Free cancellation up to 7 days before the walk. Within 7 days the walk is non refundable, since the historian has reserved the time. We reschedule for severe weather at no cost.
